"My line of thinking is blank. I haven't even formed a thought yet, Noss..." She sank into the water, looking to the side. "Richard would like for me to think along the arrow, but you would like for me to think in the circle... I haven't learned how I want to think and I would like to figure it out..."

"You'll follow Richard."
She said in a defeated tone. She stood up and looked back woard the shore. She wanted to add 'you always do', but didn't. Instead, she started walking.

"He's my brother, yes, but I don't always do what he wants me to..." She sank deeper into the water so her eyes were barely at the water's surface. She was crying now, but didn't know why.

She looked back, shook her head, and then resumed walking toward the shore. She paused and turned around, giving a fake smile to Kayla.
"Your aunts' club is opening tonight. We should go. Friends or a date, that ball's in your court."
It was a token comment, Noss knew what the answer was already.

She was quiet a long moment. She wasn't totally sure what to say. She'd been crazy about Kayla for so long, and never expected it to go anywhere. In honestly, she still didn't. But, finally, she said it.
"Pick you up at seven?"

Kayla nodded with a bright smile. "Formal, Semi, or Casual?" She had heard her mother ask her dad that before they went out.
