As it was almost every early morning, the sun was rising to greet the new day. As it rarely was almost every early morning, Kyoko was awake. She sat at the edge of the bluffs, oblivious to the treacherous fall below. Her legs were swinging forward, then fell back, and swung forward again. She was lost in her own little world, forgetting all of the troubles of today.
She was humming a song that didn't exist, simply letting random notes resonate in her throat. Her third year uniform looked dirty in places as if she had rolled around on the ground earlier (she had actually tripped over her own two feet on her way to the bluffs). She still seemed to have a cheery outlook on life even after getting a little dirty.
Her hair was longer than it was when she first came to the academy, so she meant to get a haircut sometime, but being a student with nice weather around, she procrastinated on it and almost everything else.

What exactly was a British dwarf doing all the way out here? Well, he was quite frankly on a patrol. Which tended to miander over to the Bluffs. Why not? The seal here, it was a good reason. And with all the other crap that had happened, why the bloody hell not? Damn anyone who would tell him any different at the moment. He had been pushed around enough in his teenage years, thanks very much.
He made a hop down a low ledge, as he was climbing close to the bottom, close to the sea. Yes he was aware that the tide might come in and completely wash him away. But at the same time, he'd almost think it was a blessing at the moment. It might get rid of the pressure headache.
He was currently garbed in a suit, which seemed quite unreasonable for a stroll amongst the cliffs. But hey, what did he know?
He looked up with his brown eyes over his glasses and then he blinked quietly. There was a girl above him? How odd.
"Why hello there!" He said with a cheery wave as he smiled up at her.

Kyoko looked down, and involuntarily said, "A leprechaun!" She then slapped her hands over her mouth. She then moved the hands away a small distance and said, "sorry." He looked at least partly Irish to her. Other thoughts had popped into her head, none of them dwarf though. She pulled her legs up from the ledge and sat down on them, still looking down at the man one ledge below her. "What are you doin?" she asked. "And why are you wearing a monkey suit?" she asked.
"I've never seen you here before, are you a new teacher?" she continued. "What's your name? How did you get down there?" Her bombardment of questions would only end once she ran out of breath. "Hey, are you a secret agent?!" her voice excited now. "Do you know 007?"

Alan looked about ready to choke a kitten, but he managed to keep his rant internal. The rant which went somewhat like this.
'WHAT?! LEPRECHAUN!? DO I LOOK LIKE I CARRY A POT OF GOLD TO YOU?! WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?! I DON'T LIVE AT THE END OF A RAINBOW JUST BECAUSE I'M SHORT GODDAMN IT!'
"I-I..." He coughed and gathered himself, but then the bombardment of questions came and he stared up at her, bewildered. He pushed his tiny spectacles up his nose and coughed again.
"No, I'm not a teacher, although I used to be. And I- what?" Knew James Bond? What drug was this young lady on? "N-No, I'm not a secret agent!" Although he did work for the UN. "Y- I-..." He gave up trying to speak and then tried to go back to a previous question.
"My name is Alan Padmore, what's yours?" He asked her.

"I'm Kyoko Misaki," she introduced, her own questions forgotten. "I'm a third year student here. What'cha doin' here? What did you used to teach? Was it math? I don't like math. Science is cool though. Did you teach chemistry?" she was still out of breath from her last bombardment, so she hadn't been able to ask a lot this time and was gasping for breath half-way though her last question.
She hadn't mean to insult him either, or make him think she was on drugs, but it was just how she was. Hyper to the extreme and random incarnate.

"No, I didn't teach here Miss, I taught at a different dueling academy. But I taught Duel Monsters... essentially the class, if you haven't taken it, composes of giving information about the different sets of cards and the advantages of each card within..." He looked around and then saw a way to climb up and he rubbed his hands. Was he going to be able to reach each section of ledge? Well, he'd soon find out, wouldn't he?
It was an outcropping at a jagged slant, with varying levels of height, but he was pretty strong, for his size at any rate. He had to. So, he started to climb, talking as he did.
"I was never good at sciences, but math I've been pretty good at. My best subject was English when I was your age though." The Brit commented. Then he laughed. "Not that every British man or woman is good at English. The world seems to have that illusion." He commented.

"Yeah," she said, sighing. "I actually heard that Ohio had the best English. Can't remember who said it though. I think my father who heard it from a teacher he had who heard it from another teacher, who came from some country in Europe." She wasn't from Ohio either.
She then looked down at him climbing up. "Want a hand?" she asked, thinking of applauding him, though she resisted that urge. He would probably be within hitting distance soon anyways. She leaned down and held out her hand to him to help. She then got a better look at his face. "How do those glasses stay on your face?" she asked randomly.

"Ohio? OHIO? Oh bloody hell, we're being outdone by the Americans, someone call in the grammar police." He couldn't help it, he had to joke about it, and then he coughed.
"I apologize, I didn't mean to offend." He looked up at Kyoko and nodded. "Thank you, I do appreciate it." He commented. "I'm not that heavy, you shouldn't have too much issue." He strained to reach her hand. Being a pituitary dwarf, all of his body parts were in proportion, which meant that he had shorter arms along with shorter legs and a shorter torso. So, this was a struggle for him. He grabbed her hand and then he blinked.
"Erm... my glasses just... they're pince-nez." He said as he took them off and flipped them to show the pads beneath the glasses. "They fit really tightly to my nose." He explained, and then he put them back on. Then he used his legs to climb up the ridge, using Kyoko's hand for support. Finally he got up and took a breath.
"Ah, much better. I thought I was going to have to walk a good mile back." He said with a laugh.

"I'm from Michigan," she said. "And if you know college football, you'd know that Michigan State and Ohio State are rivals."
She had looked at his glasses with interest when he showed them, almost letting go of his hand when he did so, though she managed to resist that urge as well. "Cool.
"So what are you doing here anyway?" she asked since he had never answered that. "If you're not a teacher. Oh wait, are you part of Campus Security?" she asked, though she didn't go off on a long line of questions this time and left it at those two.

"Ah... after a fashion. I'm certainly doing some security work for the campus, but I'm not on their payroll, if you catch my meaning." He commented with a quiet chuckle. "It's a favor to an old friend. I knew the staff here from when they were going through school. I'm their professor." He put a hand behind his head. "I know, I don't look old enough, but..." He shrugged.
"But, I must say, the only football I know is what you guys call soccer, and the only time I keep track of it is during FIFA." He said wih a grin. "I'm not much into organized sport."

"Wow you don't look like your 60," she said bluntly. That was the age she was guessing he was at least since he taught some of her teachers.
"And not soccer. I mean good old fashion American Football. You know where big guys tackle each other." She then rubbed the back of her head. "But I don't watch it that much either."
"So what are you looking for? And why are you doing it for free? Do you need any help?"

Alan nearly anime fell. 60?!
"You realize your oldest teacher is perhaps 30 if they're lucky, right?" He asked with a sweatdrop. "And I started teaching really young as well... I think I was 22 or so." Wow... just... wow.
"I'm not really looking for anything though, and I'm not doing it for free. I suppose you could say that I'm a part of a security service brought in by Pegasus." Well, not necessarily by Pegasus... his unit commander was KC and he worked for UNIT. "But hey, I'm quite happy to help out around here. A lot of the people around here are friends and sons and daughters of friends."

"Really?" she asked looking skeptical. "Back in Michigan, the teachers that I had and that my mother had were in their 70s."
Kyoko wasn't really sure what to make of the hobbit. "So how are you helping?" The idea then hit her on the head, and it had taken its sweet time. "You're here about the bombings," she said, her voice solemn for the first time since she had seen this man. It was making sense to her; both this academy and the I2 headquarters were part of I2, which Pegasus owned. At least that was what she was guessing.

He looked at her quietly and then he nodded sagely.
"You've hit the nail on the head my dear." He said solemnly. "I've been around since... well I do believe December or so. Right after the bombs went off at the school. I was brought in to help with keeping you guys safe... I seem to have failed a touch." He said with a quiet chuckle.
"Don't be too worried though. You are safe... myself and my comrades make sure of that."

"You're comrades?" she asked, thinking of another Alan, though this one had a russian accent. "Who are they? Do you have any leads?" Kyoko wasn't so addle brained that she couldn't think of a possible way of getting help for the Student Union. Even a small lead would be useful.
"Have there been any other things that the papers haven't talked about?"

Alan looked at her quietly and then he shook his head.
"It's nothing that you need to worry about. It's dangerous for kids to get involved in this. I can't... I..." He sighed and looked around.
He knew about the Union. He had gotten it reported to him by Linnis. He thought that they were brave, but he also thought that they didn't need it... but...
There was some things children could do that adults couldn't.
"Does your group know about Ramla Selk?" Alan asked quietly. He couldn't believe he was doing this.

Kyoko shook her head. "I've never heard of her, but I don't know about the others," she said openly since he already seemed to know about the Union.
She had heard about the stories from the original Duel Academy about the students that had gotten rid of evil, and she would have pointed that out to him, but held it back. "I can ask a few of them, but that's the best I can do...." Alan was short enough to pass for a kid.... She pushed that thought out of her mind; the others wouldn't trust her if she snuck him in to find out.

Alan sighed.
"Ramla Selk is a pyromaniac who was closely allied with a Shadow Duelist named Vynix. Some of your group might know him, some might not. Anyway, she is, according to eye witnesses, quite alive and well, and allied together with a group that call themselves the Four Horsemen... their goal to bring around the apocolypse. She doesn't fit the bomber profile but that doesn't disregard the fact that we only have a few leads, one of them her. She is a lead because she sets a lot of faith in dates, much like her partner did. However there are a couple of others as well." He looked over his glasses at her.
"You must be wondering why I'm actually telling you this."

Kyoko nodded without saying a word. She had no idea why he would divulge this information to her since she thought he thought that students shouldn't get involved with this entire mess. It was mind boggling, but she wasn't complaining. Never look a gift horse in the mouth as her grandmother used to tell her.

And that was perhaps one of the oddest sayings this writer had ever seen.
He closed his eyes quietly, and then continued. "I do it because the Abjects are under a little bit of stress to do anything. I also do it because without the proper information, you will make assumptions, and those assumptions will cause many of you to die. This is not a game. You need the information, because I know no matter how many times I say it, you all will still go after these people and get yourselves into trouble. I might as well give you a sword instead of a butter knife."
